Mid-Century Meets Manhattan

Today's breakfast brought together a mid-century tablecloth and some pieces of my newly minted Manhattan Depression glass collection.





I just love this little mustard jar!



This butter dish gets high marks, too.











The table also features Post-86 Fiesta dinnerware and flatware, modern napkins and vintage red and black striped juice glasses. On the menu: chicken sausage and tomato omlets and grits.

Mardi Gras

Sometimes the party is so fun that there's no time to stop and blog about it! Here's a little Mardi Gras left over for your viewing pleasure.











This festive table features vintage and reissue Harlequin dinnerware, Post-86 Fiesta candle holders, vintage champagne saucers, Oneida Deauville flatware, modern napkins and organza tablecloth, and souvenir napkin rings and mask from New Orleans.

Cherries and Cupids

Happy Valentine's Day!







Vintage florists vases from the 50's bring a tough of retro romance to a cherry tablecloth set with red stripe Fiesta dinnerware and red glassware.

I was so surprised when my Valentine gave me a Bakelite cherry pin to match my table!

The Year of the Tiger

Last night we welcomed in the Year of the Tiger with a wonderful traditional Taiwanese meal.







I marked the occassion by launching my new collection of Manhattan depression glass.



This condiment holder was perfect for the soy sauce.







Vintage tiger salt and pepper shakers from Japan brought the perfect seasonal accent to Fiesta dinnerware candle holders and a medium vase in scarlet.

My friend Shin-Lei was in charge of the menu and the cooking.



The dishes have guaranteed that we'll be prosperous for the new year!

The Love Bug

These Libby Love Bug glasses reminded me of a Valentine pin that I had as a child. That pin inspired a short story that got rave reviews in Sixth Grade. I hope that my red and black table for two will meet with equal success! If you like it, please let me know.









Pier One sold these placemats at Christmas, but they are perfect for Valentine's as well!



The glasses and placemats are joined by P86 Fiesta dinnerware featuring the Betty Crocker "lady bug" decal, Oneida Deauville flatware, vintage striped juice glasses and modern napkins. The cyclamen centerpiece brings some of Nature's hearts to the table!

Table for Two with Tulips

February has so many great tabletop holidays~Valentine's Day, Chinese New Year, Mardi Gras. Let's get started with a Valentine's table for two!











My fabulous CMG Secret Santa gave me this amazing Startex tablecloth with pink and fuschia tulips on a field of lemongrass. How did she know that we always use tulips to celebrate Valentine's Day at my house in honor of the 3 milli one vases that my husband brought me for our first Valentine's way back when?

This table also features P86 Fiesta dinnerware lemongrass square plates, rose dinner plates, a rose coffee server and creamer and sugar set, and goblets in white and rose and chartreuse stick-handled demitasse cups and saucers. The heart plates are from Crate & Barrel. The Oneida Cityscape flatware rests on vintage cocktail napkins . The centerpiece is a white milli one vase with droopy tulips and rose bulb candleholders with green candles.

Won't this cloth look great with fuschia Fiesta, whenever that day comes?

Tabletop Travels

I enjoy souvenir tablecloths from places I've visited or lived. My experience has been that the cloths for your home region are seldom found near home, but this wonderful New England souvenir cloth defied that logic. I was thrilled to find it in Central Massachusetts last weekend. I kept the tablesetting simple for these photos so that the graphics really stand out.











This cloth hosts P86 Fiesta square dinnerware plates in chocolate, luncheon plates in scarlet, Riviera deep plates in yellow and fruit bowls in green, modern Libbey striped glasses, P86 Fiesta flatware, Pier One napkins and Crate & Barrel napkin rings.

It's a Popular Cloth

I enjoy a good round of "One Cloth, Two Tables." This exercise usually takes the form of two collectors who have the same tablecloth working on tablescapes and then sharing and comparing the result. The "pear and blossoms" cloth has made appearances on other tables that I'd like to share here.

In August 2009, the textile appeared on the fabulous blog The Little Round Table.
