This cloth had been on my wish list for a long time. I found it at the September Brimfield, on a table full of vintage cowboy boots. The boot seller indicated it had been her grandmothers. I'm so glad she was willing to liberate it from being a boot display. Why the delay in sharing my Brimfield finds? This cloth was entered in a "Guess the 'Scaper" contest. No, I did not fool anyone, but the cloth got rave reviews. The little tortoiseshell and green Bakelite fish also came from B'field. The shell planter is by Hall.Daphnehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14527315218500576087noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5695720216041478279.post-51370004728712339442013-10-09T10:01:00.002-04:002013-10-09T10:03:35.880-04:00The Zodiac Cloth<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/2013/Fall/IMG_0011.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0011.jpg"/><br />

The Ivan Bartlett shell cloth is the pink colorway. It's a nice compliment to the <a href="http://tabletoptime.blogspot.com/2011/01/winter-beach.html">peach</a> version. I'm not sure if these are actually different cloths or if my peach cloth is a faded version of the pink.<br />

I don't know the maker of the vase or the shell planter, but I love how they look with the blue Riviera. Windsor Diamond depression glass, <i>Deauville</i> flatware and vintage cocktail napkins complete the table. Ahhh summer! We don't way to say goodbye to you just yet!<br />

The napkin rings feature Maine sand dollars. The candle holders are Abingdon pottery. I'm amazed at the way the cloth brings together such a range of Fiesta colors: scarlet, heather, tangerine, marigold, rose and plum! HLCCA conference goers had a wonderful surprise waiting for us when we visited the Homer Laughlin China Outlet earlier this month: lapis salad plates and mugs decalled in polka dots! I shipped mine home to avoid airline issues, and it was a challenge to wait out the arrival of that box.<br />

These lapis pieces are a wonderful next chapter in the dot saga started by HLCCA when it offered white and scarlet pieces at the Nashville conference in 2010.<br />

<br />
It's very nice to meet you. Now that we've been formally introduced, I can understand all of the confusing photos that have been posted for this new Fiesta color. The camera has a hard time reading this lovely medium blue shade.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/May%202013/June20011.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo June20011.jpg"/><br />
<br />
The lapis individual pasta bowl is sitting on a sapphire plate. The mini pitchers are (left to right) cobalt, periwinkle and peacock. Now let's add a vintage Riviera creamer.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/May%202013/42463d20-a89f-4807-b61b-aaae62af5542.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 42463d20-a89f-4807-b61b-aaae62af5542.jpg"/><br />
<br />
Can you see the difference between sapphire and lapis in the afternoon sun? It's as if a little bit of peacock glaze has been blended into the sapphire formula.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/May%202013/June20008.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo June20008.jpg"/><br />
<br />
Lapis looks great inside, too.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/May%202013/June20015.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo June20015.jpg"/><br />
<br />
I'm going to enjoy adding this new hue to the tabletop!<br />
<br />

<br />
The lilacs in my Garden Club arrangement are filling the living room with such a lovely scent. They inspired me to do a full tablescape with the Startex peony tablecloth.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Py-5cLtStu8/UZzZTOHNX5I/AAAAAAAAAKc/mmkZkHESktI/s1600/May+22+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Py-5cLtStu8/UZzZTOHNX5I/AAAAAAAAAKc/mmkZkHESktI/s320/May+22+004.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
The border pattern on the cloth drapes perfectly on my tabletop. I had been thinking about crafting this cloth into a circle skirt to wear to the HLCCA conference. Now I see that it needs to stay intact for the table.<br />
<br />

The placesettings feature P86 Fiesta in turquoise, chocolate, lemongrass and flamingo. The flatware is vintage Oneida <i>Deauville</i>.<br />
<br />

<br />
Last week I had three wonderful outings to the Brimfield Antique Fair. This May's treasures include Bakelite bangles, <br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SPZQxBLuYXI/UZqmZTta2uI/AAAAAAAAAIA/HfqFF5hibSs/s1600/May+20+017.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SPZQxBLuYXI/UZqmZTta2uI/AAAAAAAAAIA/HfqFF5hibSs/s320/May+20+017.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
a Whiting & Davis mesh collar,<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jJLOQmkFdXc/UZqmkKxIwQI/AAAAAAAAAII/5LVzAHR3q8I/s1600/May+20+021.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jJLOQmkFdXc/UZqmkKxIwQI/AAAAAAAAAII/5LVzAHR3q8I/s320/May+20+021.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
and some pieces from my favorite crafter who uses vintage chenille.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q5x3VPBqC44/UZqm_sKNBfI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/VLoYsnkXIDg/s1600/May+20+018.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q5x3VPBqC44/UZqm_sKNBfI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/VLoYsnkXIDg/s320/May+20+018.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
These pieces will be gifts, including the lavender sachet. Lest you think my tabletop was neglected, I did find 2 Oneida <i>Deauville</i> seafood forks and a pickle fork.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AmEsJtInTsk/UZqnYT_59HI/AAAAAAAAAIY/SyJk-evWkQA/s1600/May+20+011.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AmEsJtInTsk/UZqnYT_59HI/AAAAAAAAAIY/SyJk-evWkQA/s320/May+20+011.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
Yes, that's a <i>Deauville</i> ring as well. I was beginning to think that I would not buy a dish on this outing, but then I found four Hall 299 fish casseroles.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Koaq3dK4PrU/UZqnyWIcbtI/AAAAAAAAAIg/QvPPXe-hXgk/s1600/May+20+013.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Koaq3dK4PrU/UZqnyWIcbtI/AAAAAAAAAIg/QvPPXe-hXgk/s320/May+20+013.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
Are you curious about the little "spears" next to the fish? They are sterling corn-on-the-cob holders. I saw these in <b>Country Living</b> magazine this month and admired them greatly. Then lo and behold, my friend Emily and I found a pair in a sterling-by-the-gram rummage pile.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x7hrqav9bAI/UZqoNRbRURI/AAAAAAAAAIo/NCjhfvi1Z7c/s1600/May+20+027.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x7hrqav9bAI/UZqoNRbRURI/AAAAAAAAAIo/NCjhfvi1Z7c/s320/May+20+027.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
The detail is just so charming! The table is also getting two new cloths. First up, a Pride of Flanders with daffodils.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KSzeSnbXwxs/UZqpKldUk1I/AAAAAAAAAI0/k9fIVQeHCYg/s1600/May+20+022.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KSzeSnbXwxs/UZqpKldUk1I/AAAAAAAAAI0/k9fIVQeHCYg/s320/May+20+022.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
This lovely pink cloth may end up being crafted into something, but for now, I need your help identifying the flowers. Could these be peonies?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QahSWg1-aFQ/UZqpdhXQNbI/AAAAAAAAAI8/qaPFj_5uMlY/s1600/May+20+048.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QahSWg1-aFQ/UZqpdhXQNbI/AAAAAAAAAI8/qaPFj_5uMlY/s320/May+20+048.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
The garden now has 2 new birdhouses.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tIQ3jyGT1ec/UZqppe7QgNI/AAAAAAAAAJE/l40N1ee7Uio/s1600/May+20+036.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tIQ3jyGT1ec/UZqppe7QgNI/AAAAAAAAAJE/l40N1ee7Uio/s320/May+20+036.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
This windchime from old silver plate may go outside, or it may find a permanent home in the dining room.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gkdv9jn_2U4/UZqp2tYQ8AI/AAAAAAAAAJM/BimlJ6RM0bM/s1600/May+20+035.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gkdv9jn_2U4/UZqp2tYQ8AI/AAAAAAAAAJM/BimlJ6RM0bM/s320/May+20+035.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
The turquoise Fiesta mille one vase is not from B'field, but I also wanted to share my arrangement from today's garden club meeting.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tkgu2HmbvQ8/UZquHhN_qxI/AAAAAAAAAJs/SqSQ5VFPbjY/s1600/May+20+047.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tkgu2HmbvQ8/UZquHhN_qxI/AAAAAAAAAJs/SqSQ5VFPbjY/s320/May+20+047.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
The colors go so very well with the B'field cloth. This vase can be a tricky one given its height and the width of the opening. I learned a great technique today for making it much more user friendly. Placing a ball of chicken wire in the base made the perfect frog for this tall arrangement.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--6KarTrbx9I/UZqumu5rL9I/AAAAAAAAAJ0/Lcs8RtMnKCc/s1600/May+20+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--6KarTrbx9I/UZqumu5rL9I/AAAAAAAAAJ0/Lcs8RtMnKCc/s320/May+20+006.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5mxhiakjuEs/UZquwq6x40I/AAAAAAAAAJ8/zog76o1Y5ZQ/s1600/May+20+008.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5mxhiakjuEs/UZquwq6x40I/AAAAAAAAAJ8/zog76o1Y5ZQ/s320/May+20+008.JPG" /></a><br />
<br />
The floral arranging class I attended was most helpful. Now I know that I've mastered "height." My next focus will be on adding some "flop" to the base of the arrangement. I do like May...Brimfield, Spring flowers, warm temps...Ahh!<br />
<br />
P.S. Yes, I've changed the way I upload the photos. To see larger pictures, click on a photo and a slideshow will be available.<br />
<br />
P.P.S. I forgot to share these little spun cotton angels! They were my last purchase of the show. They will enjoy meeting the elves in December.<br />

<br />
Just when I thought that I had logged all of my tablecloths into my database, I discovered one treasure that I had not yet shared. Thanks to my tablescape friends for proposing that we do a "Surf & Turf" party to brighten our winter. My offering falls into the "surf" category, and it involves a <i>gift for Patsy</i>.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/2013/February13006.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo February13006.jpg"/><br />
<br />
The box is from Makanna's. Their tag line says it all. For decades, this shop was the "go-to" for brides. What could be inside?<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/2013/February13007.jpg"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/2013/February13008.jpg"><br />
<br />
Patsy is a lucky girl indeed.<br />

<br />
Mrs. Antoinette H. Sargent was a woman of great tabletop taste, sending a Tammis Keefe tablecloth and matching napkins! She sent her gift with visions of delicious meals to come in the home of Patsy and Blair.<br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/2013/February13015.jpg"><br />
<br />
<img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/dd-fiesta/2013/February13016.jpg"><br />
<br />
We could be a little sad that Patsy never used her fabulous tablecloth, but maybe, just maybe, she loved it so much that she found her joy in keeping it pristine and perfect for all of these years. After all, there are five lovely tidbits full of treats on the cloth.<br />
<br />

The oyster plate is by Hall, and the tidbit is either Rhythm or Ballerina.<br />

I could not find any information about Patsy and Blair, but Mrs. Sargent and her daughter Ruth appear in the 1940 Census in St. Paul, Minnesota. I like thinking about Mrs. Sargent placing the order with the Boston linen shop to send to the bride-to-be. I found the box in a consignment store in Salisbury, Massachusetts a couple of years ago.<br />
<br />
We'll probably never know what life the cloth lived in the 50 plus years between the time it left Makanna's and the time I discovered it. I hope you have a little tabletop fun today dreaming up your own story of Patsy, Tammis and the lovely gift of Mrs. Sargent.<br />
<br />
Patsy's gift is part of a special Surf-n-Turf blog party featuring Richard and the Divas! Please do check out all of our tables. We're so glad you could join us today.<br />
